───
Being one of the main attractions that is entirely unique to Hong Kong, our Ocean Park project called for something even more extraordinary to emphasise and elevate that reputation. We made two separate installations, one in the spa room and one in the restaurant of the Marriott hotel. Perfecting the ocean theme for the different environments and spaces pushed us to create the look with materials and techniques we hadn’t used before.
For the three dolphins that we worked on, we had to make a rendering and mockup of the design for the first time. Using plywood and reindeer moss, we installed the moss in sections, putting them together to produce that three-dimensional effect, layering each one to create the contour of such a complex shape. On top of that, we also experimented with different materials and setups, such as using fibreglass to cast real coral reefs and hanging the finished product with wires to create a floating effect. After adding matching lighting and other small details, the final look was a serene, underwater scene that adds to the hotel’s calm environment.
