The Black Velvet Alocasia, or Alocasia reginula, has dark green leaves with bright veins. It grows up to 1.5 feet tall and thrives in warm, humid climates with moist soil and dappled light. Caution: It can cause skin irritation.

Light: prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the delicate leaves.

Water: keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch. Reduce watering in the winter when growth slows.

Fertiliser: every 2-4 weeks during the growing season with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce or stop fertilizing in the winter.

Benefits: low maintenance with striking aesthetics.
