Pencil Cactus
The pencil cactus, or Euphorbia tirucalli, is a succulent shrub native to Africa and India. It grows 2-6 feet tall indoors, prefers dry conditions and direct sunlight, and requires minimal watering. Caution: Its sap is poisonous when cut.
Light: thrives in bright, direct sunlight. It requires at least 6 hours of direct sun per day to maintain its optimal growth. Place it in a south-facing or west-facing window or in a location with ample sunlight. However, it can also tolerate partial shade.
Water: highly drought-tolerant and prefers to dry out between waterings. Allow the soil to completely dry out before watering again. Depending on the environment and season, this may be around once every 3-4 weeks. Be cautious not to overwater, as it is more susceptible to root rot than underwatering.
Fertiliser: once every 2-3 months during the growing season (spring and summer). Use a balanced, diluted cactus fertilizer or a fertilizer specifically formulated for succulents. Follow the package instructions for dosage.
Benefits: sculptural shape and air-purifying properties.
